Glossary

Hemp - A tall widely cultivated Asian herb (Cannabis sativa of the family Cannabaceae, the hemp family) that is cultivated for its tough bast fiber and edible seeds and oil and that is often separated into a tall loosely branched species (C. Sativa) and a low-growing densely branched species (C. Indica). “Hemp” is a term typically used to classify varieties of Cannabis that contain 0.3% or less THC.

Cannabinoid - A substance that is structurally or functionally similar to cannabinoids derived from hemp or cannabis:

Cannabidiol (CBD) - A crystalline, nonintoxicating cannabinoid C21H30O2 found in cannabis and hemp that is sometimes used medicinally After THC, cannabidiol is the second most prevalent cannabinoid in cannabis.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - Either of two physiologically active isomers C21H30O2 from hemp plant resin especially: one that is the chief intoxicant in marijuana.

CBD isolate – Any CBD isolate products that have CBD as the only active cannabinoid ingredient. During processing and manufacture, the CBD is isolated from the other active ingredients.

Full-spectrum CBD – Products that are full-spectrum CBD products will contain other cannabinoids, including CBD, THC, flavonoids, terpenes, phytonutrients and essential oils. It’s believed that the effects of CBD are enhanced when used in conjunction with these other plant materials. This is known as the entourage effect. Many people think this is the most effective way to use CBD.

Broad-spectrum CBD – Broad-spectrum CBD products are relatively new. Broad-spectrum CBD products contain all the phytonutrients, some cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and essential oil, but have had all THC removed during processing. This means that you’re potentially getting the benefit of the entourage effect without any risk of THC.

Terpenes - Any of numerous hydrocarbons (C 5 H 8 ) n found especially in essential oils, resins, and balsams. They are aromatic with distinctive flavors like citrus, berry, mint, and pine and are commonly used in CBD products to aid in creating certain positive effects.
